Modern Japanese Prints

We offer 18th and 19th century ukiyo-e woodblock prints, 20th century shin-hanga prints, and work by contemporary Japanese artists.

Hiroshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1876-1950): “In a Temple Yard.” Woodblock print. Pencil signed. Jizuri-seal (self-printed seal). $1,500. 

Residual tape from a former matting, and some fading of the title written in pencil. Otherwise colors and paper are in excellent condition.

Sheet measures 16” x 10.75” (oban size).

Toshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1911-1995): “Sinjuhn.” From the Series “Tokyo at Night.” Pencil signed lifetime strike. $850. 

This early work of Toshi Yoshida, son of Hiroshi Yoshida, is in pristine condition. Chuban size. 

Hasui Kawase (Japanese, 1883-1957): “Morning at Nijubashi Bridge.” Woodblock print. Published by Watanabe circa 1931-41, with publisher’s “D Seal” lower right. $2500.
Vertical oban size. Image and paper are in very fine condition. A former collector (US Army) has inscribed a note on the top margin of the print (“I pass it every day.”)
